Welcome to The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I’m Lindsey Wilson, former pro athlete, high-performance mindset coach, and entrepreneur and here we’ll dive into everything mindset. I have lived all these mindset tools- as an athlete, a business owner, a mom, a human. And together, you and I will sit in the student chair and study mindset. We’ll work on our own mindset and even talk about how to build a mindset coaching business if that’s your thing. With experts in the field, athletes, coaches, and other high-performance individuals, we are going to nerd out on the mental side of the game. This podcast is all about being a student of mindset. We believe mindset work isn’t about fixing or changing, it’s becoming more of who you were always meant to be. Here we work on our mindset. The good stuff, the hard stuff, the stuff most people won’t do. We have officially changed our name from The Inner Game to The Mindset Coach Academy podcast because we are specifically looking to grow as coaches and students of mindset. We’ll interview top experts in the field and high-achieving individuals about how mindset has brought them success, as well as dive deep into mindset training. New episodes will drop every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, as well as short 5-minute episodes every Mental Monday. Our first two guests are badass female Olympians successful on the playing field and rocking it off the field as well. We’ll start off with former Olympic Volleyball Player Courtney Thompson.

When Gratitude Sucks - MM
Monday Feb 26, 2024
Monday Feb 26, 2024
Today, I'm talking about the downside of gratitude. I wrote about this concept recently in my newsletter, because, at the age of 42, this is a new concept for me.
A lot of us here have similar traits. Traits that helped us be successful in sports. But sometimes, these strengths in sports don't serve us in other areas of our lives.
I'm really good at sucking it up. When something goes wrong, I am really good at minimizing it, shifting my thoughts, and focusing on all the good things in my life. That's a strength of mine in so many ways. But there's also a dark side to gratitude. And that's what I'm getting into today on The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast.
I'm so curious if you relate to my message today, so listen to today's Mental Monday episode to learn more and let me know what you think!

The Waterfall Technique - MM
Monday Feb 19, 2024
Monday Feb 19, 2024
I am loving how much emotional learning is going on in school these days. I am constantly impressed by so many of the things that my kids are learning about identifying and regulating their emotions.
For example, my kid's public elementary school has a calm space for kids to go when they're feeling overwhelmed. And they're learning how to label and identify their feelings with colors and something called a "mood meter".
And, you know what, I am HERE for it.
Side note - If you are a teacher who teaches this stuff to young kids, THANK YOU.
All that to say, today's Mental Monday lesson comes from my 3 year old. It's a little mental exercise you can teach your kids, AND use yourself. It works at any age.

Extended Episode - Do I Need an Advanced Degree to be a Mindset Coach?
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
I want to talk today about advanced degrees in the mindset coaching industry.
If you are thinking about joining The MCA Certification, you might be wondering if you should go back to school to get your degree instead.
This is a question that comes up all time, and it’s one that I fully believe you should be asking. Because if you’re really serious about becoming a mindset coach, you should explore all your options.
With 18 years of experience as a mindset coach, I have seen people go through my program both with and without degrees, and what I’ve learned is that an advanced degree does not determine whether or not you’ll be successful in this field. There are many other factors at play.
If you choose to go down the advanced degree path, I don’t want you to do it just because you think that’s what you SHOULD do. I want you to do it for the right reasons, knowing exactly what you have to gain by doing it.
The goal of this episode is to show you the big picture when it comes to advanced degrees so you can decide if you need one.
I won’t give you the answers, but I will give you the questions you should be asking so that you can make a decisive, informed decision, one way or another.

A Simple Exercise to Deal With Stress - MM
Monday Feb 12, 2024
Monday Feb 12, 2024
I bring a lot of hypnotism principles into what I teach. Now, because of all the preconceived notions around the word "hypnotism", I prefer to use broader words like visualization, metaphors, and breathwork. At its core, it's all of these things.
On today's Mental Monday, I'm sharing an exercise that I've been working on with my hypnotist, Dr. James Hollingsworth. This exercise has helped me settle my thoughts in time of stress and calm my nervous system when I'm feeling fried.
If you are going through something now, or just want to feel more equipped next time you're struggling, I really encourage you to listen to today's Mental Monday podcast and practice this exercise.
The more you practice it, the stronger it will get. Personally, I've been using it multiple times a day because it really does work.

The XMas Tree Goal - MM
Monday Feb 05, 2024
Monday Feb 05, 2024
Today's Mental Monday episode begins with a little story. The best thing about stories is that they're open to interpretation, and you can take what you need.
During the holidays, my house is wild. I have 4 daughters under 10 and my kids are all about Christmas.
Although the holidays are long behind us, this story (like all good holiday stories) has a lesson in it for all of us.

I want to take a moment to demystify the topic of visualization.
If you've been following me for a while, you've heard me talk about visualization. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan. I've used it to achieve my goals, on and off the field, and I've seen firsthand the life changing power of visualization over and over again. That said, it's not uncommon to feel a little lost when it comes to visualization, maybe even a bit intimidated, or worried you'll do it wrong.
So today, i'm telling you exactly how you can start practicing visualization TODAY. You don't have to figure it out on your own, I've got you.

Extended Episode - Anticipating Obstacles
Wednesday Jan 24, 2024
Wednesday Jan 24, 2024
This episode is about obstacles. Ironically, I had so many obstacles when I tried to record it. Funny how that happens, isn’t it?
To be more specific, this episode is about ANTICIPATING obstacles. Which may seem a little counterintuitive. Let’s say you have a big, scary, new goal and you decide to go for it. So many of us think we need to just focus on the positive stuff. We need to believe in ourselves to get momentum, we need to think happy thoughts, etc. etc. etc.
It often feels wrong to jump into something while thinking about all the ways it could go wrong. But today I’m going to explain to you why it’s absolutely necessary to think about that stuff.
Anticipating obstacles is not manifesting the worst case scenario. Anticipating obstacles prepares you to be successful. Because when you don’t anticipate obstacles, you WILL be surprised by them, and that can lead to feeling overwhelmed, stuck, discouraged, or it can cause you to turn to what’s comfortable in the moment.
Anticipate obstacles gives you a chance to create a plan and solve for things ahead of time. This sets you up for success.
In this episode, I cover:
- How to anticipate tangible vs intangible obstacles
- How our feelings about obstacles impact everything
- How I solve for one of my biggest obstacles as a business owner
- A common obstacle that’s easy to overlook
- One exercise you can do today

Consent in Coaching - MM
Monday Jan 15, 2024
Monday Jan 15, 2024
I am a coach through and through. And as a coach, I am constantly wanting to help other people level up in their life.
But with this skill comes this urge to tell people what to do... regardless of whether or not they asked for it.
Does anyone else relate to this?
Today, I'm diving into the very important issue of consent in coaching, why it matters, and how to navigate it as someone who wants to offer help.

Extended Episode - Lindsey’s Life Update
Wednesday Jan 10, 2024
Wednesday Jan 10, 2024
Initially, I was a little hesitant to do a life update on the podcast. But then I remembered something my husband told me before I recorded my first episode. He told me that the best podcasts are the ones where people stay open and let people in. And I agree. I love hearing more about the people I follow.
So today, that’s what I’m doing. I’m letting you in, and sitting down with you like we’re having a turmeric latte (my latest favorite beverage) or going out for a walk around Greenlake. I’ve had a tremendously difficult 6 months, and while I can’t go into everything today, I do want to talk about some simple things that have been bringing me joy and helping me move through the tough stuff. I need more casual chats with friends in my life, and maybe you do too.
So if a life update isn’t for you, go ahead and skip this episode. But if you want to hear more about my life and, let’s face it, my ongoing obsession with birdwatching, press play and join me for a chat.
