Welcome to The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I’m Lindsey Wilson, former pro athlete, high-performance mindset coach, and entrepreneur and here we’ll dive into everything mindset. I have lived all these mindset tools- as an athlete, a business owner, a mom, a human. And together, you and I will sit in the student chair and study mindset. We’ll work on our own mindset and even talk about how to build a mindset coaching business if that’s your thing. With experts in the field, athletes, coaches, and other high-performance individuals, we are going to nerd out on the mental side of the game. This podcast is all about being a student of mindset. We believe mindset work isn’t about fixing or changing, it’s becoming more of who you were always meant to be. Here we work on our mindset. The good stuff, the hard stuff, the stuff most people won’t do. We have officially changed our name from The Inner Game to The Mindset Coach Academy podcast because we are specifically looking to grow as coaches and students of mindset. We’ll interview top experts in the field and high-achieving individuals about how mindset has brought them success, as well as dive deep into mindset training. New episodes will drop every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, as well as short 5-minute episodes every Mental Monday. Our first two guests are badass female Olympians successful on the playing field and rocking it off the field as well. We’ll start off with former Olympic Volleyball Player Courtney Thompson.

MM - 3 Ways to Visualize Today
Monday Jan 27, 2025
Monday Jan 27, 2025
BELIEF WORK is our golden nugget secret weapon as mindset coaches.
It's one of the first principles I teach to any athlete or MCA student.
When it comes to achieving our goals, a huge part of our success hinges on our ability to maintain belief over time.
In this episode, I explain how belief work can and will change the way your brain processes discomfort, help you find cognitive peace and equilibrium, and raise your performance over time.

Myth-Busting Sports Psych Buzzwords with Dr. Arman Taghizadeh
Wednesday Jan 22, 2025
Wednesday Jan 22, 2025
Today, I am putting Arman Taghizadeh (or Dr. T) in the hot seat! Dr. T is a former NCAA D1 college wrestler-turned-psychiatrist, A TEDx speaker, and the host of The Mindset Experience Podcast. As an athlete and a psychiatrist, I couldn’t have dreamed up a better guest for this podcast.
In this interview, Dr. T. re-defines common mindset terms that get tossed around in the coaching space, but are often misunderstood. As a medical professional with a sports background, Dr. T. has so much valuable insight for mindset coaches and anyone working with athletes.
He dives into:
- How mindset coaches and psychiatrists can work together
- The problem with positive affirmations (and how to make them actually work)
- How to break down goal setting to create a road map
- The science behind positive self-talk
- How to change your neurochemistry with a “culture of appreciation”
Throughout this episode, I am constantly impressed with the way Dr. T. pulls from his scientific knowledge of the brain and human psychology to strengthen his work with athletes.
This one is packed with gold for coaches, athletes, parents, and mindset coaches, so grab your headphones and get ready to laugh, learn, and level up your mindset!

Here’s a glance at this episode:
[0:34] Dr. T. begins with a quick introduction, outlining his experience as an NCAA D1 college wrestler, and his journey to becoming a coach, then a psychiatrist. He shares what he’s most proud of, and the importance of living what you teach.
[5:53] As a college wrestler, Dr. T. participated in a sport that was widely misunderstood at the time, and discovered the importance of a strong mental game first-hand. He shares how his love of sports led him to med school.
[12:13] Where is the line between Mental Performance and Mental Health? Dr. T. believes physical health is the precursor to physical performance, and that the same is true for mental health. He explains why practitioners with higher level degrees don’t necessarily provide the best care for certain athletes.
[17:37] Lindsey asks “When should athletes be referred out to a mental health professional?” Dr. T. outlines important red flags, and when collaboration is the best form of action. He shares why he doesn’t use the word “normal” anymore, and warning signs that indicate the need for psychiatric help and/or parent involvement.
[23:19] As a mental performance coach, Dr. T. offers an extensive first session with any athlete. He brings parents into the training, and spends a lot of time inquiring about an athlete’s home life and past experiences in their sport.
[27:59] Dr. T. shares how he structures his curriculum, and how he builds on each session. Lindsey asks for an example, and Dr. T. teaches his unique take on positive affirmations and self-talk.
[36:23] Lindsey asks Dr. T. how (and when) he would teach a teenage athlete about the subconscious brain. Dr. T. talks about the science of “getting in the zone” and how he illustrates brain activity in different performance states.
[38:35] Dr. T. dives deep into his unique take on goal setting, and why 90% of New Years Resolutions fail. He explains the importance of a roadmap, and the “magic number” of steps between you and your goal.
[45:45] Lindsey and Dr. T. discuss their definition of the word “belief”. Michael Jordan missed more game winning shots than he made; Dr. T. explains how his story perfectly illustrates belief.
[48:56] Dr. T. talks about the #1 thing he wants people to remember about him 20 years from now. He explains how he builds a “culture of appreciation” and talks about why an intentional gratitude practice has the power to change your neurochemistry.

MM - The Real Reason Vulnerability Matters
Monday Jan 13, 2025
Monday Jan 13, 2025
In today's Mental Monday, I'm going full Brene Brown to talk about vulnerability.
At our MCA retreat in the fall, we sat in a circle and shared something vulnerable. And I realized a lot of us struggle with being vulnerable because we feel like we're taking up too much space. This episode challenges that feeling, as I share my personal experience.

Extended Episode - What Should I Charge as a Mental Performance Coach
Wednesday Jan 08, 2025
Wednesday Jan 08, 2025
What if you could create a business that helps people AND makes money?
For many so many of my MCA students, deciding what to charge as a mindset coach feels like throwing spaghetti at a wall. It feels obscure, overwhelming, and uncomfortable.
But it doesn’t have to feel that way.
Today, I’m going to go through six key tips to help you choose your pricing AND feel really good about selling your services.
By the end of this podcast you’ll understand:
- How to set prices that reflect the true value of your coaching
- How to know when you’re priced too high or too low - and what to do about it
- When to undercharge and overdeliver
- How to define the value of your services as a mindset coach
- Why it’s rarely about the “price” - and how to feel great about selling
- How to set prices that evolve with you
Whether you’re an aspiring mindset coach, or an entrepreneur in another area, so many of us struggle with setting our prices and, in a greater sense, owning our value.
Let 2025 be the year you trust yourself and trust the process. Follow along in the episode and use my six tips to get started.

Wednesday Dec 18, 2024
Wednesday Dec 18, 2024
Welcome back to The Mindset Coach Academy! Today, I am thrilled to sit down with Coach Emma Doyle. I was on her podcast a few weeks ago, and couldn’t wait to bring her here.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Emma’s done it all - she’s a high-performance tennis player turned corporate coach, author of “What Makes a Great Coach?: Top 10 Practices of the World’s Best Coaches”, and a sought-after speaker. She recently gave a powerful TEDx talk about women in sports called, “Unleashing Female Potential”.
The work she is doing is giving coaches what they need to create team culture that is firm, fair, and fun. From corporate leadership to team culture, Emma’s work teaches practical skills that you can take back to your team.
Here are some topics we cover:
- Skills to help Inter-generational teams communicate better
- How to empower your team to problem solve
- Simple communication tips to create a culture curiosity
- Why “Why” questions don’t work, and how to ask better questions as a coach
- How to tap into motivation through play and gamification.
This episode has so much in it. I was scribbling notes the whole time. So, grab your notebook, sit back, and enjoy this chat with Coach Emma Doyle.

5 Ways People Play Games
- PVP - Player vs player - Create a competition
- Puzzles - Encourage them to solve the puzzle
- Narrative - Create a story or journey around it.
- Collectors - Find a way to move up levels or collect points
- Social - Social pressure to belong to a community
Here’s a glance at this episode:
[2:44] Coach Emma describes what her TEDx talk is all about, and outlines the power of the phrase, “next time”. She goes on to explain the importance of age diversity in the workplace.
[5:26] Lindsey asks, “What are some things you want clients to get out of your workshops?” Emma talks about leaders as coaches, how be curious with those you lead, and learning through play.
[8:20] Emma reflects on the moment she realized she needed to adapt her teaching style to coach tough-to-reach athletes. Lindsey asks about how coaches can personalize their coaching while keeping high standards.
[12:40] “Get the buy in!” Emma urges coaches to define core values with their team. Lindsey applies these ideas to parenting. Emma explains the practical step-by-step process of voting on core values and how to ‘gamify’ the experience.
[19:19] Emma defines the “5 Ways People Play Games”. She explains, “It’s the difference between pushing your map of the world onto somebody vs pulling out that which lives within them.”
[23:28] The key is performing with pressure, not performing under pressure. This is the next level of coaching. Emma is concerned for coaches who don’t have the tools to help athletes strengthen their inner voice.
[26:06] Lindsey believes coaches have a resistance to change because change is hard in the beginning. Emma offers her perspective on coach burnout, empowering athletes, and the “power of the pause”.
[30:39] Lindsey asks Emma to share one simple tool for coaches and leaders. Emma teaches her “anchoring” technique [hint: It’s a lot like a tool WE teach!]
[33:55] Emma believes coaches need to ask better questions. She explains the truth about ‘why’ questions and shares some alternatives that will encourage better responses.
